I am a professional classical guitarist who offers tuition to students of all levels and ages. I have many years of experience, and I am very highly regarded for developing musicianship alongside secure technical foundations. Many of my students go on to music colleges in Britain and abroad and develop their own successful careers.
As the classical guitar is quite a physical instrument that requires a degree of strength I am happy to teach children from the age of 7. I have quite a relaxed approach to lessons which children respond to well, and my aim is that they really enjoy playing and have fun with music, whilst gaining a good understanding of how it works. This is very important as it is a skill that can be transferred to any instrument in the future.
I specialise in preparing students for music college entry. Ideally I would like to teach them for at least a year before the auditions as this gives time to consolidate any technical weaknesses and develop a more in depth understanding of their repertoire. I use quite a lot of study material alongside repertoire work as I find this is the most efficient way of really getting to the heart of what is required. I am very proud that many of my students gain entrance scholarships to the various conservatoires in this country and go on to have fulfilling musical careers.
Not everyone has the ambition to follow music as a career path and I thoroughly enjoy teaching adults who wish to develop their playing. Sometimes this can be just through carefully chosen varied repertoire and sometimes this can be using the exam syllabuses. I am keen to explore with my students the very wide range of classical guitar repertoire, and they seem to enjoy discovering music that they would not have considered before.
My teaching style is relaxed and very no-nonsense, without the unnecessary mystique that can often surround learning an instrument at a high level.
